In this issue of SIGNIS Media, we look at the crucial role of freedom of expression for democracy, especially in the context of a free press. Various SIGNIS members around the world offer insight into the state of social communication in their communities. As of press time, Russia has invaded Ukraine. If “truth is the first casualty of war”, then independent journalists may be the only thing standing between us and the lies that unfold, hiding the horrific human suffering that occurs right in front of our eyes.
