Lima, Peru.- The Radio and Television Advisory Council (CONCORTV), together with the Calandria Association of Social Communicators, promoted the creation of the Media Observatory, which seeks to generate greater awareness about the role of the media in the lives of women. people and in society. The initiative is an instance open to various civil society organizations and academia, which seeks to promote improvements in the practices of the media, especially radio and television, regarding the treatment and approach of issues related to violence against women , childhood and adolescence.

The proposal was presented in early August by the Calandria Association of Social Communicators, with the purpose of promoting greater social responsibility of the media.

The Observatory's main functions are to monitor and constantly analyze the content disseminated in the media, as well as to promote the creation of spaces for reflection and dialogue for citizens, the promotion of mechanisms for consultation, opinion, complaint and the recognition of the good media practices.

Among the priority issues to work on from the observatory are, gender violence against women; physical, psychological and sexual violence, femicide in the news and in entertainment programs broadcast mainly during family hours from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Media Observatory will constantly monitor the level of compliance with the current regulations for broadcasters; such as the Radio and Television Law No. 28278 in its components of codes of ethics, and family hours, the Law of violence against women and the guidelines of the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP) regarding the role of the media Communication.

Each activity to be carried out from the Observatory will conclude with a technical report, the results of which will be made known to the various sectors of the State, to the media owners themselves, to the CONCORTV member institutions and to the public.

Soon, the first actions of the Media Observatory and the mechanisms to participate in the various activities proposed will be made known through social networks.
