The Mexican film The Last Wagon , recently released on Netflix , has great messages. It tells the story of Ikal, a boy of about 10 years of age who knows little about schools because his father works in the construction of railway tracks, and the family moves to new residences as work on the tracks progresses.

The last wagon, a film with great teachings

In the last town where they live, Ikal is invited to join the school and receive additional classes from the teacher Georgina. The boy and the teacher are the protagonists of this story from which we can learn so much.

Every boy and girl deserves to go to school and receive a good education. Unfortunately, not all boys and girls go, not all school teaching truly teaches and educates.

A teacher who inspires by her way of being

In the film, the teacher Georgina not only teaches but puts all her effort to inspire the creativity of her disciples, help them develop their personal abilities, encourage them to seek and get the best out of each and every one, put them in contact with the nature, accompany them very closely.

And he does it with firmness, discipline, responsibility, but also with love, empathy, genuine interest in each person.

Demand and tenderness is the ideal combination to know how to shape life in childhood.

The teacher Georgina represents the noblest of a vocation to educate, not reduced to fulfilling a job, but to accompanying and caring for the initial path of life of little people, and then knowing how to set them free so that they can continue.

education starts at home

Of course, this vocation to educate begins in every home. The film offers some traits of Ikal's parents, of their love, protection, care, sacrifices, but also of their negligence in leaving the child without school, until they react and promise that he will not miss classes.

You learn at home when there is an atmosphere of affection, trust and communication; of shared responsibilities, of time to spend together... This is so simple and basic that in current times some parents are leaving it aside.

Home and school, the pairing for a good education

Home and school are the privileged spaces of a minor, but life also teaches us in encounters with people, with nature, with animals; those simple encounters that we have been losing, when we connect to entertainment devices and gadgets, but we do not touch, feel, hear or like each other live.

To make us sensitive to this, the film follows the adventures of three boys and a girl, not only classmates at school, but in everyday life, each one being so different.

With them we see how a friendship is forged, what games and adventures unite a group, how they have fun in the fields or in a river or with the animals; how they face difficulties and dangers, how each person discovers what they want to be, what things are worth more in life.

The Last Wagon, a movie to watch as a family

The last wagon connects us from the heart with the memories of the best and most valuable childhood, of what stays forever, thanks to the people who were by our side and helped us to be who we are. It is undoubtedly a good cinema to watch with the family.
