The Certification Course in "Media Education" was successfully organized by NISCORT (National Institute of Communication, Research and Social Training) from September 21 to 30, 2020, with the participation of lay leaders, religious parents and sisters belonging to various congregations.

Dr. Magimai Pragasam, Vice President of SIGNIS Asia was the facilitator and Fr. Robinson Rodrigues, Director of NISCORT was the organizer of this online program.

Course content included youth and media issues, media literacy, media education, educommunication, film evaluation, newspaper analysis, media violence, fake news, human communication, and media education training methodologies.

Participants received certificates at the end of the program and were also asked to submit their "short and long term plans" along with a summary of their learning from the course.

Below are some of the testimonials from the participants:

Sr. Ranjita Bilung

It was a revelation for me to understand the current problems of children and young people today. The stories of parents, teachers and school authorities about the change in attitude and behavior of today's children and young people are truly shocking! They are unable to differentiate between what is good and what is bad for their life. Surely running away from the media is not a solution, but you need to stand your ground and ask questions about the connection between media content and your life.

I learned about "fake news and its consequences," the art of analyzing movies and how advertisements negatively influence children's behavior, and the importance of human communication in building meaningful relationships with each other in the community. I will apply all the skills learned during the course in my personal and professional life.

Sr. Mary Josephine Isabella
The course addressed in depth various dimensions of existing media from the point of view of educators, parents and young people.
It is time for all institutions to embrace "media education" with great care and awareness to help our young people grow up with realistic media knowledge and make the best use of media for their progress and prosperity.

Trainer's experience sharing and clarification through discussions helped participants to better understand different important media education concepts, techniques and tools so that we can share them with others effectively. It was a very useful program.

Sr. Pia Da Cruz
I am grateful to my community for allowing me to join this course. It has given me a new understanding of how to approach my ministry with people and has opened new avenues to implement and make my life more meaningful.
I have come to understand the value and blessings of media education. I want to reach young and old through media education to enrich others with this beautiful gift of the media, focusing on its creative and positive impact.

I feel very encouraged by the life example of Blessed Carlo Acutis, a teenager who has given a new vision in the use of digital media. I am very grateful to Dr. Magimai Pragasam for his kind and loving way of sharing the richness of Media Education.

The focus of the program was holistic, integrating different aspects of psychology, NLP, sociology, spirituality, etc.
The resource person demonstrated the skills he was trying to communicate, such as listening, paying attention to each participant, recognizing and appreciating gifts and contributions, inviting regular feedback, ensuring understanding through regular reviews of sections of the presentations of each day, as well as a summary of each day.

A lot of very useful content was shared. Personally, I would have preferred to spend more time on skills, techniques, and methodology that were a bit rushed for the last three days and more condensed information on analytics, fake news, etc. of the first days.
Despite being virtual, it was great to connect with others on the show, see the interest and commitment, and share their gifts in a miniscule way.
Overall, I found the program useful, interactive, engaging, and transformative.

I learned many important media education tools and techniques during these eight days. You have changed your mind about social media and I want to motivate my students to use social media in a positive way. I will train them to identify fake news in the media, start a "youtube" channel, and encourage my students to produce and upload short videos on selected topics and send the links to their parents and friends.
This will definitely develop your creativity. I will use the Facebook pages with the messages on environmental protection. I will create a blog to write about the importance of media education in the school curriculum.
I will create a "class blog" to discuss and use Instagram for photo essays
