Ambassadors Laudato Si ”, which began as a training proposal for young communicators, initially planned as a virtual course and an awareness campaign, has broadened its horizons to become the “ Advanced Studies Program (PREA) of Spirituality and Pastoral Communication Social with an Ecological Perspective ” , product of the alliance between SIGNIS Venezuela and SIGNIS ALC Joven.

The creation of this study program is born thanks to the virtual meetings held between the Argentine educommunicator Carlos Ferraro, president of SIGNIS ALC, the vice president of SIGNIS ALC and coordinator of SIGNIS ALC Joven, María José Centurión, and Father Néstor Briceño, president of SIGNIS Venezuela. They also had the close support of other SIGNIS members, such as: Solange Didiego (Argentina), Ricardo Alvarenga (Brazil), Andrés González (Costa Rica) and Gustavo Ponne (Venezuela).

The Institute of Theology for Religious (ITER) and the Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB) will offer this program to the young communicators of SIGNIS ALC together with other interested parties, who hope to start classes in March 2021.

Purposeful content

This PREA will have seven seminars that, as Father Néstor Briceño affirms, will allow SIGNIS to carry out all that is the teaching of Pope Francis, in terms of two important themes: the pastoral care of communication and ecology. This academic offering also promises to generate a resonance in the world of young communicators in Latin America.

The courses will be taught by Latin American educommunicators, who, over two semesters, will share their knowledge in different areas of knowledge, using the distance modality in the virtual campus of ITER in Venezuela. It is expected to receive a first batch of approximately one hundred Latin American students, who will receive professional training in the fields of communication, ecology and leadership, based on what is established in the encyclical Laudato Si.
