Global award honors teachers who teach about freedom of the press
FranceGlobal Youth & News Media Prize will reward in its 2021 version those outstanding teachers who teach their students the importance of press freedom. The distinction will recognize teachers who effectively instill in their students the crucial role of journalism, as well as an understanding of its associated risks.
The papers will be evaluated by a distinguished international panel of judges, notably Doan Viet Hoat, a Vietnamese journalist, educator and activist who spent 22 years in jail for his criticism of the communist government.

“Often times, media literacy does not embody the vital importance of journalism to society, and the high price some pay to do that work,” said Dr. Aralynn Abare McMane, director of Global Youth & News Media. "This year we seek to recognize those teachers who teach these lessons efficiently, so that they will appeal to their students."
Registration opens on March 1, and the registration period ends on April 16. The award-winning teachers will participate in an international ceremony, and a webinar designed to spread their contributions to journalism and education globally.
"The application process is very simple, as we know that educators have had to do a lot in these months of pandemic," said McMane.
Global Youth & News Media is a French non-profit organization committed to linking young people and the media. In addition to its global awards program, the organization amplifies youth journalism through its World Teenage Reporting Projects.
This is the third edition of the Global Youth & News Media Prize, the first distinction of which was awarded to The Guardian US and the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas for their joint journalistic coverage of March for Our Lives 2018 against gun violence, featured in News Xchange (Scotland). The award has been endorsed by the European Journalism Center (Netherlands), News Decoder (France), Eurasian Media Forum (Kazakhstan) and the Google News Initiative (US, UK).
