URGENT ALERT (7/2/21): Malaysian police are investigating Anna Har of Freedom Film Network (FFN) and cartoonist Amin Landak. They will be questioned in Bukit Aman on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 2.30 pm

Anna and Amin Landak are under investigation under article 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and articles 500 and 505B of the Penal Code.

The police are investigating Anna and Amin Landak in connection with the release of a short film, "Chilli Powder & Thinner", on June 12, 2021. The 4-minute film is based on the true story of a boy who testified to have been tortured while in police custody with two of his friends.

It is incredibly disturbing that the police have chosen to investigate artists and activists who raise serious concerns about deaths in custody, torture, abuse and misconduct by the police, rather than addressing acts of violence and harm that have repeatedly surfaced, especially in recent times. months. Why have the authorities chosen to go after the messenger, instead of attending to these urgent messages?

We see these investigations as a form of intimidation and harassment of human rights defenders, including artists and storytellers. We invite the public to watch the film at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96gXDBkHCbA&t=26s

FFN will continue to inform our partners and supporters regarding this case and we strongly stand behind Anna and Amin Landak.
