Information and communication technologies have radically modified many aspects of today's society; From the educational space, it is important to understand the scope of these transformations and the dimensions that are put into play in times of such significant changes.

A permanent analysis of the link between education and ICT is required, in order to make contributions from an academic point of view and that aim to strengthen education as a human right. Since the implementation of the Ceibal Plan in our country, more than twelve years ago, the digital divide related to access has been shortened.

But this massive access to ICT shows other gaps, which require rethinking the uses made of them in educational spaces. This year's pandemic amplified the focus on ICT in education, especially in the early stages of isolation and suspension of face-to-face classes, establishing in many cases as the only viable channel to maintain the educational link.

Although the first movements tried to maintain educational formats with different media, this situation allowed transparency and promotion of debates on the pedagogical uses of ICT, in addition to strengthening other aspects, such as, for example, ties with families, essential during the non-face-to-face work and, along with this, repositioning very crudely the unequal distribution of family responsibilities.

In order to contribute to this debate and with the V Congress of FLACSO in Uruguay as the goal, to be held when the pandemic situation allows it, we are pleased to present another publication of FLACSO Uruguay on this subject, which compiles a series of articles by prominent specialists from our country, Argentina and Spain.

It addresses different topics, some specific to the situation of the pandemic, others about virtual learning environments, covering aspects related to planning and evaluation, the role of teachers, tutorials and the generation of new didactic materials, learning visible, to educational robotics and computational thinking.

We invite you to go through the different chapters of this book, Technologies in (and for) education. I am grateful for the work and commitment of those who, surely traversed in their lives by the impacts of these times, continue to make important contributions towards the transformation of education, with a view to promoting more inclusive, supportive, egalitarian and as diverse as universal spaces.
