"Two" by Satyajit Ray

In 1964, renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray was commissioned to create a short film for "ESSO World Theater," a televised cultural program funded by the American oil company Esso. Although asked to write and direct the film in English, Ray chose to create a silent piece. The result is a poignant fable about friendship and rivalry. As with many of his films, Ray composed the music, including the evocative flute melody.
After Satyajit Ray received an honorary Oscar in 1992, the Academy embarked on an ambitious project to preserve the work of the Bangladeshi filmmaker. "Two," also known as "The Parable of the Two," is part of the Academy's Satyajit Ray Collection (http://www.oscars.org/film-archive/co...), which includes 18 feature films directed by Ray and preserved by the Archive.
Although Ray worked exclusively in 35mm, "Two" could have been shot on 16mm, as it was created specifically for television. After an exhaustive search for film-related materials, three 16mm prints were located. A preservation negative was obtained from the least worn 16mm print, courtesy of the Austrian Film Museum. "Two" was digitally scanned, and the image was cleaned and restored to remove scratches. The low-quality audio from the original 16mm film was also restored. The film is now preserved and available for theatrical release in 16mm or as a digital cinema package (DCP). Audiences worldwide can now enjoy this hidden gem, preserved by the Academy Film Archive, from the master filmmaker Satyajit Ray.
